CrownsPorcelain crowns are a cosmetic restoration used to improve your tooth's shape or repair a tooth with problems. Crowns are most often used for teeth that are broken, worn, or have portions destroyed by tooth decay.

A porcelain crown is a shell that surrounds the entire tooth. It is bonded to the tooth where it permanently becomes part of the tooth. A crown is indicated when a significant part of the tooth is damaged or covered by an existing filling. It helps prevent future cracking of the tooth and provides a beautiful, durable restoration.

Crowns are often preferable to large fillings. Unlike fillings which apply metal or plastic directly into your mouth, a crown is fabricated away from your mouth. Your crown is created either in a lab from a unique tooth impression or from a digital impression using CEREC technology. In either situation, careful attention is paid to tooth shape, color, alignment and how the teeth fit together during biting.
